Rabbia, angoscia, invettive incendiarie e fragili sentimenti... era da tempo che non ascoltavamo un disco di h.c. vecchia scuola così entusiasmante. Siamo stati felici di contribuire a questo miracoloso vinile, realizzandone l'artwork e partecipando alla co-produzione.

Questo disco ti prende per il bavero e ti parla, sputandoti addosso, guardandoti negli occhi. Lo fa senza mezzi termini, con una sincerità unica, disarmante, commovente. Ci parla della gente che vive ai margini con rabbia e dignità, di chi lotta tutti i giorni per un pezzo di vita miserabile, dei piccoli/grandi problemi degli ambienti nei quali ci muoviamo, ci parla delle nostre ipocrisie e di come dovrebbero girare le cose perché tutti noi fossimo più felici di guardarci in faccia quando ci specchiamo al mattino. Non avevamo dubbi sul valore di un gruppo che da vent'anni suona punk/hc per un'unica, furiosa urgenza di comunicare e smuovere gli animi, ridendo delle mode e delle cazzate di contorno dell'ambiente musicale: però con Tornare ai resti, gli amici Contrasto hanno fatto un ulteriore salto in avanti, soprattutto per quanto riguardo la potenza e la chiarezza del messaggio. Tornare ai resti: tornare a quella che è stata la storia dell'antagonismo, con le sue pratiche e le sue scelte. Tornare al quotidiano, nella sua brutale drammaticità, tornare sulla strada, tornare alla concretezza: le storie raccontate in Questa non è forse guerra?, Più di mille parole, Mai più senza fucile, La storia ripete copioni e Cambiare tutto per non cambiare niente spingono inevitabilmente, disperatamente, verso questa direzione. Che disco della madonna!

Putrid Fever - Do you remember? #1994

In the early 1980s, when tattoos were still considered taboo and the only squats in Italy were the Virus in Milan and the Victor Charlie in Pisa, four sinister individuals got together to form Putrid Fever. This Florentine group was to be a milestone in G.D.H.C. (Tuscan hardcore) and founding member Fefo Forconi would go on to further glory as a member of the American band TOXIC REASONS. Includes the band's 1984 demo tape and 1985 7" EP, along with songs taken from the Goot From The Boot compilation. A rare slice of mid-'80s hardcore made in Italy.

VV.AA. - Assillo politico (tape) #1982

Un morso di storia di punk nostrano. Compilazione che nasce in Piemonte - uscì in allegato alla fanzine Ansia - ma ospita formazioni comasche (Disperazione), piacentine (Babylon's Wall), spezzine (Holocaust) e pordenonesi (Isolation). Questa edizione fa il paio con quella tedesca, pubblicata lo stesso anno dalla Graf Hausen Tapes. Il però è che la versione italiana ha le tracce divise ed è a 160kbps, mentre quella tedesca ha una sola traccia per lato ma a 192kbps. A voi la scelta.

The Braen's Machine - Underground #1971

 

The Braen’s Machine is a mysterious study group, whose albums issued by Liuto label (Piero Umiliani’s property) are the most wanted and change hands for a considerable amount of money (Underground‘s price is about 1500 dollars on 3rd Coast Sound Distortion Catalog for example).
Exploito psych monster rarity. Recorded by Piero Umiliani at the now legendary SOUND-WORK-SHOP studio in January 1971. Released in a very limited (less than 100) number of copies. The original vinyl is practically impossible to find out.
Acid drenched fuzz guitar with one funky rhythm section. The drum sound its pretty interesting. The style is not far from other ghost-groups of the same period, an instrumental music that could be used as a movie soundtrack, with fuzz guitar and keyboards in predominance, and probably more psych-oriented than others. It’s sure under Braen’s Machine’s name Piero Umiliani and Alessandro Alessandroni are hidden, as they appeared with their nicknames Braen and Gisteri as the album tracks composers.

Minkions - Distorted pictures from distorted reality #2012

Some would have pretend that this is some stupid journo obsession. Or that there’s much more to it than we actually think. But none of that bullshit with Minkions... After all, those self-proclaimed kings of ‘raw hardcore splatthrash punk’ have never been beating around the bush regarding the bands they’ve been influenced from day one back in 2006 when they got together after what must have been one of the bigges binge party even known to mankind! When you’ve put to tape a raging WEHRMACHT cover (Drink beer be free), have shared splits with CHILDREN OF TECHNOLOGY or BARBATOS and have a logo which is an obvious tribute to the one used by the mighty ACCÜSED for the last twenty-five years or so, let’s say the writing is on the wall.

So there you go, you do now know the score: raging thrash/speedcore the 80’s way, full of two minutes blast, stupid lyrics about getting fucked up and the kind of insane mosh parts that even your senile grandma won’t be able to resist. Something a bit on the same wave-length as label mates LAHAR and as rooted in the old-school way of doing things but with a punk, much less serious but with ‘let’s get fucked-up’ type of attitude!

So yeah, recorded last winter, clocking at just under half an hour (perfect timing for this kind of spontaneous and bursting style) and also released on CD by FOAD Records, Distorted pictures from a distorted reality doesn’t fuck around and goes straight into the pit. So what are you waiting for to join the party damn it???

Oxes - Bile Stbudy #2011

The wildly energetic Baltimore instrumental math-rock trio Oxes have been mostly inactive over the past few years, but back in the early ’00s, they were the shit in their hometown. You can still hear their influence in the wave of spazzy art-punk bands that’s continued coming out of the city. And now Oxes are returning with the new 12" Bile Stbudy, their first release since 2005. Bile Stbudy is out 11/22 on Friends, and it’s limited to 500 copies.

Zeus! - Opera #2013

Non azzardiamo troppo se definiamo gli Zeus! i LOCUST di casa nostra. Non azzardiamo perché Justin Pearson, che di quella esperienza seminale per il noise brutale fu trascinatore nonché mentore, non solo coproduce l’album, ma ci mette la faccia in un pezzo (Sick And Destroy) stabilendo più di un contatto tra la defunta (defunta?) band made in San Diego e il duo formato da Luca Cavina e Paolo Mongardi, ormai soprannominato prezzemolino d’acciaio per l’energia e i progetti in cui si applica. Se lì era un mix di mathcore e grind a deflagrare in faccia all’ascoltatore, qui siamo più su un versante noise e weird-prog, ma velocità esecutive e parossismo strumentale non sono troppo distanti.

L’accoppiata basso/batteria, entrambi in distorsione, reitera la formula minimal-noise à la LIGHTNING BOLT di cui il duo non è però un mero epigone. Anzi, rielaborandone le trame vertiginose e il rifferama mai scontato ne fornisce una versione personale, intrisa di sarcasmo (i fantastici titoli delle canzoni dicono di una autoironia sagace e puntuta che è sempre benvenuta in ambiti spesso tropo seriosi), strumentalmente più pulita e focalizzata, incline com’è a formulari prog-alieni e devianze –core in ogni salsa.

Così l’assalto sonico di canzoni come Lucy In The Sky With King Diamond, La Morte Young, Giorgio Gaslini Is Our Tom Araya o Bach To The Future tocca vertici metal decontestualizzati, lande NO MEANS NO, rimasugli post-FLYING LUTTENBACHERS senza jazz, (black?)metal a doppia cassa, metal chirurgico anni ’90 (giro FEAR FACTORY e MESHUGGAH per intendersi), (post)hardcore evoluto, pesantezze noizu alla ZENI GEVA e doom psicotico in un vortice senza soste che ha però il grande pregio di non annoiare mai e, anzi, di risultare coeso e brillante. Disincantato nella sua ferocia, sempre pronto a sorprendere con stacchi e cambi di ritmo e molto attento a non prendersi mai sul serio, nonostante una bocca di fuoco che a volte mette veramente paura per la violenza sprigionata. Una violenza che oggigiorno può non sconvolgere, che può risultare risentita quanto si vuole ma che rimane pur sempre devastante e terribilmente spaventosa.

Massimo Toniutti - Autofonia (tape) #1986

Debut cassette from this Italian act, well known as the brother of Giancarlo Toniutti. Self released in 1986.

Most 'Industrial' material ever from this act. Composed by several pieces onto one long track on each side, contains metallic clank from concrete style to percussive ones, onomatopoeic voices, gloomily electronics and so on. Subtitled as "Il Clangore della propria voce dell'orecchio". Comes with a hand numbered J-card printed on matte photographic paper.

The Feeling Of Love/Movie Star Junkies - The Feeling Of Love/Movie Star Junkies (10'' split) #2008

In the realm of minimal membered blooze-trash punk combos the Feeling Of Love are in a world of their own. The expected blown speaker fidelity that has become the bread and butter for such acts is a plenty here but instead of just sticking with the purist of tricks and hating on any audio effect used after 1964 the Feeling Of Love store such things in their stock of sonic arsenal 'cuz ya never know when they come in handy.
From oily slide guitar number that question why oh why are they making up yet another oily slide guitar numbers to drunk tomcats with junkshop guitars with their string action set way to high taking a stab at recreating electrosynth riffs on them to dizzy caveman spinning around in a circle til they're dizzy bits the usual box such bands chose to stand in is soaked by the rain and loose at the seams. It falls all apart leaving everything open and the Feeling Of Love can't resist such wanderlust. They roam far from the standard Buddy Holly or Jimmy Reed type hook and the end up in a lot of more interesting places because of it.
For every movie buff out there that envisions a remake they'd like to make of a Clint Eastwood spaghetti western-forget about hiring some junior Morricone to do the soundtrack and hire the Movie Star Junkies instead. Yeah, the name is a reason to shy from wanting to check them out cuz it does sound like a name that some Scandinavian ironic Guns-n-Rose tribute act would christen themselves but this Italian band has the proper reverberation and dusty haze that just seems natural. It's not all about that expansive twaaaang with them though. They ain't afraid to scream and yell not to mention turn everything up into a redlining hiss when it's called for either. If Jon Spencer and Matt Verta-Ray decided to do a third Heavy Trash record and heard the Movie Star Junkies during the planning stages of it both of them would delete the Sadies names from their phone list and be making international calls to Turin working on plans to get these guys into a New York City studio with 'em up.
