The Peawees - Walking the walk #2007

The Peawees are back and better than ever! With the release of Walking the walk - the band's fourth full-length album - we find The Peawees cranking out more of their meaty blend of rockabilly, punk rock, classic 50's rock-n-roll, rhythm 'n blues and Italian spice. But this time around there's a new ingredient added to the mix in the form of a heavy 60's soul sound that has never been as forwardly present on past albums as it is here. There's much more of an overall melancholy vibe to many of the songs as well which the new soul sound really lends itself to very well. Whereas The Peawees previous albums were more likely to induce foot-stomping, fist-pumping and head-banging, Walking the walk is likely to get you hand-clapping, leg-slapping, gyrating and getting down with some serious boogie-woogie moves. As is the case with all past albums by The Peawees, the musicianship and singing on Walking the walk are top-notch. There isn't a band in America, Italy or anywhere else playing this style of rock-n-roll better than The Peawees.

The Jet Boys - I wanna die (7") #1995

The Jet Boys took off in the late 80's after wild man Ono-Ching cut his teeth with seminal female-fronted punk group NICKEY & THE WARRIORS. By the mid-90's, the Tokyo Back from the Grave scene had created a buzz from beyond which got acts like the 5,6,7,8's, GUITAR WOLF and of course Jet Boys noticed overseas. The band subsequently released material in the US on Sympathy for the Record Industry and Black Lung records. One of the legendary Japanese punk bands still playing regularly, the Jet Boys still shock audiences with a berserk stage show that includes mayhem, milk showers and daikon grating action!

5# Braccio - Demo - Vanchiglia '82 (tape) #1982

*ripubblico quello che avevo scritto quasi tre anni fa solo perché ho trovato un rip migliore e la copertina.

Un anno: tanto bastò ai 5° Braccio per entrare di diritto nella storia del punk hardcore nostrano. Un po' perchè l'anno in questione è il 1982 e loro si fecero trovare pronti ad accogliere per primi i nuovi suoni che arrivavano da oltreoceano. Un po' perchè nella band hanno militato personaggi che confluiranno di lì a poco in nuove e altrettanto importanti band hardcore dello stivale (NEGAZIONE, DECLINO, CONTR-AZIONE, KOLLETTIVO e PANICO). E un po' anche perchè la forte connotazione politica dei loro testi era ancora poco conosciuta in Italia.
Peccato solo che i torinesi non siano riusciti ad incidere neanche un solco su vinile, fatta eccezione per Mai più tortura inclusa nello storico sette pollici Papi, Queens, Reichkanzlers & Presidennti su Attack Punk records. Numerose invece le loro partecipazioni a tape compilation d'annata tra le quali Assillo Politico e Torino 198x.
Tax (chitarra) e Orlando Furioso (basso poi batteria) si allontanarono dalla band, causandone lo scioglimento, all'inizio del 1983, perchè contrari all'impiego di abusati slogan politici. Risolsero subito il problema fondando i NEGAZIONE. E sticazzi direi.
Per la cronaca, il nome di questa demotape è tratto dall'omonimo centro d'incontro che ospitò i primi germogli della scena punk hardcore torinese (Collettivo Punx Anarchici), mentre quello della band si riferisce al braccio del carcere di San Vittore all'epoca riservato ai detenuti politici, il quinto appunto.

MGZ - Cambio vita #1995

MGZ is the crazy techno/synth pop project of Mauro Guazzotti, which has a past in noise and industrial music with noise collective F:A.R. as well as under his own name. MGZ is a funny and parodistic act which nonetheless reflects on social issues using a dark and acid humor. On stage the band turns into MGZ & Le Signore, adding a group of actors who perform very funny scenes and mimics related to the songs's lyrics.

Kandeggina Gang - Sono cattiva/Orrore (7") #1980

There is always something not too convincing in all the punk productions of Cramps records. The sound is sketchy in some of them, or is insincere and not entirely accomplished in others. In Kandeggina Gang's case I'm inclined towards the second choice. Tracks like Orrore that could explode, fade away in the combination - already heavily stereotyped at the start of the 80's - of childish voice + hint of distortion.

Orfanado - Sete (one sided 12") #2009

First release for the italian duo (Alessandro De Zan, Riccardo Mazza), recorded and assembled during one year, giving as result the deepest sound ever. Beautiful and fresh vibes coming out from acoustic guitars, percussions, flutes, voices and birds' field recordings, in five fine composed tunes spacing between Amazonia and Africa, flying on the wings of perfect bliss. This is going to be particularly appreciated from those who love '70s brazilian psych such as Lula Cortez, Zè Ramalho, Stenio Mendez, Hermeto Pascoal, but all this with a new and unique sound.

Grazie a Desbela e al suo Venus+On sono lietissimo di offrirvi questo nastro ormai venticinquenne (ma decisamente ben conservato) che riunisce l'ottimo esordio dei Ritmo Tribale e l'ennesima conferma per il rumorismo industrial-sperimentale dei F:A.R. Allegato sonoro al numero 5 "Amen - This is religion" il cimelio in questione riporta sulla copertina una tracklist errata del lato RT, alla quale ha cercato di rimediare Desbela.

Tripla scelta per questa storica compilazione (che raccoglie la crème del Gran Ducato HardCore) uscita per la prima volta in Italia nel 1984 e poi ristampata (con qualche traccia in meno) negli States dai tipi della BCT:

Inferno - The fall and rise of inferno sci-fi grind'n'roll #2012

Dopo averci sedotto e riempiti di lusinghe, gli Inferno ci abbandonano proprio come in un vecchio film in bianco e nero. Indossati i caschi spaziali, salperanno per tornare sul loro pianeta in coincidenza con la fantomatica maledizione del 21/12/2012, tanto per essere sicuri che in quella data qualcosa di brutto accada. Intanto, però, si festeggia e si gode con l’ennesima abbuffata sonora offerta da una delle band più istrioniche e rutilanti che la scena italiana (e non solo) abbia saputo produrre da un decennio a questa parte. The fall and rise è a tutti gli effetti il miglior lavoro dei capitolini, oltre che l’ennesimo passo in avanti nell’evoluzione del loro particolarissimo cocktail di hardcore, grind, elettronica, attitudine sci-fi e follia sparsa a mo’ di parmigiano sulla pasta. I brani prendono immediatamente alla gola e non vi sono cedimenti in questa cavalcata che non disdegna brusche sterzate e improvvise accelerazioni stile montagne russe. Eel boots and the curse of the skinny horses può essere presa a perfetto paradigma di un album che fotografa al meglio lo stile funambolico degli Inferno e lo tramuta in puri fuochi d’artificio, gli stessi che da sempre rappresentano la miglior definizione possibile di una loro comparsa live. La caratteristica principale di The fall and rise sta nel raggiunto equilibrio tra caos e rigore scientifico, cioè tra intuito geniale e precisione tecnica nell’esecuzione, furia cieca e meticolosa ricerca dei suoni appropriati a darle voce, ironia anarchica e voglia di far le cose nel migliore dei modi. The fall and rise è uno di quei dischi da avere e di cui andare fieri, da far conoscere ai propri amici e, perché no, ai propri nemici, soprattutto quelli con i paraocchi e le orecchie mono-uso, incapaci di confrontarsi con scelte coraggiose e incroci inusuali. Gli Inferno hanno saputo riempire un vuoto e crearsi una nicchia unica, impossibile paragonarli a qualche altro gruppo in azione se non procedendo per ampie e spesso forzate semplificazioni, impresa ardua rimpiazzarli... Come si diceva, per ora si festeggia, ben certi che un giorno ci sveglieremo e troveremo un biglietto di saluti sul comodino, mentre un disco volante si allontana nel cielo. Ah, questi pirati spaziali...
