Bologna Violenta - Uno bianca #2014

Uno bianca is the fourth BOLOGNA VIOLENTA's full lenght album, out on February 2014 thanks to Woodworm, Wallace Records and Dischi Bervisti.

This concept album is based on the crimes of the “Banda della Uno Bianca”, a gang formed by five policemen and a civilian operating in the Bologna area (from 1987 to 1994), which made more than hundred crimes, killing twenty four people and wounding more than hundred.

The gang's name is taken from the type of car used for the crimes, a white Fiat Uno, very popular in Italy in those years.

The gang, led by Savi brothers, has always been known for the brutality of its operations that didn't save the lives of those who was between criminals and their purpose. The album goes over twenty-seven steps in its criminal history, a sort of imaginary soundtrack of the gang's worst crimes against gas stations, motorway tollbooths, banks and supermarkets.

Uno bianca is characterized by extreme sounds, made even more dramatic by the massive use of string orchestras. The song form is completely abandoned, the track structures are modeled on the progress of events, as reported by the procedural acts.

BOLOGNA VIOLENTA wants to pay homage to the city of Bologna, telling through music one of his most violent stories ever. He does it with an extremely dark album, in which the death bell rings to remember the tragedy and madness of those times.

Squadra Omega - Materia Oscura #2017

SQUADRA OMEGA is one of the bands which best represents the vast spectrum of the Italian underground. Psychedelic, avant-garde, jazz-rock, improvisation, kraut-rock, rock in opposition and ethno-tribalism blend seamlessly into the work of a collective that moves and expands depending on the urgency of the moment, focused around a core that rotates around the two members OmegaMatt and OmegaG8. In the band's wide discography we find compositional freedom, improvised jam-sessions in and a amplitude of references, all of which move between different spaces and times.

Materia Oscura (Dark matter) offers a glimpse at the same time the soil of the "rock" matter as well as the alien, seen from multiple points of view, neighbors and materials distant and mysterious. Three tracks that stretch their eyes at Orient or Africa as well as into the depths of the cosmos, landing on the side of the art-rock of the '70s and towards some psychedelic, visionary, cinematic drives then explode into a real ecstatic trip. Inputs from Coltrane, Canterburian jazz-rock, GRATEFUL DEAD and Synthy-Space views are melted into free-form landings until they discover their own personal form of prog. Different Universes collide and coexist in the band in a constant mutation, maintaining faith in one single ideal: "music for the third eye”.

ZEIT is a four piece band from Venezia, Italy, who formed in 2014, from the looks of things. ZEIT play a killer style of music that incorporates elements of hardcore, punk, crust, sludge, and grindcore within their sound. Musically, ZEIT can be said to be influenced by bands such as CONVERGE, CURSED, THE SECRET, ROT IN HELL, and other like-minded bands.  Since their inception in 2014, ZEIT have released a two track EP titled Zoe-Bios in May of 2014 and a ten song LP titled The World Is Nothing in November of 2015. Monument is the band's latest four song EP, which was released via Assurd Records, Cave Canem Diy, Dingleberry Records, Dischi Bervisti, Epidemic Records, Icore Produzioni, Indelirium Records, Rip Roaring Shit Storm Records, Shove Records, and Tanato Records on October 29th, 2016. Mombu - Niger #2013

Italian supergroup MOMBU owe a debt of influence to LIGHTNING BOLT. Drummer Antonio Zitarelli is from NEO, and baritone saxophonist Luca T. Mai is from Doklands favourites ZU. Two people is enough for a supergroup, isn't it? If not they've got a few guest musicians who occasionally join in the fun. The fun in question is a devastating mix of grinding metal, free jazz, and African drumming. Mombu work best when they stay in the centre of their influences and don't veer off too far into authenticity. Such is the case with Niger, the title track of their 2013 album. Genres collide with full force into each other in this pulsating barrage of sound. Juddering, abrasive and entirely awesome, MOMBU are making music the likes of which have never been heard before.

Mucopus - The return of Mucopus (ep) #2011

I Mucopus nascono a Torino nel Luglio 1995, durante l’occupazione del Kinoz, da Paolo “Stocca” batteria, Claudio “Diazzi” chitarra, Roberto “Leovinci” basso e Danilo voce.
I Mucopus non sapevano suonare ma si chiusero nella cantina di El Paso Occupato per un anno fino al loro esordio dal vivo al Delta House di Torino nel 1996.
Dopo una serie di concerti negli squat della scena locale, registrano un demo tape di 10 brani nello studio di Maurizio “il gatto” (ex IFIX TCEN TCEN ex NERORGASMO). Purtroppo il demo va perduto. Alla fine del 1997 Danilo lascia il posto vacante. Dopo due sostituti durati pochi mesi ed un paio di concerti, trovano il nuovo cantante Pierpunk con il quale registrano un nuovo demo tape di 16 brani da Tino Paratore. L’attività live aumenta e alla fine del 1999 sono pronti 6 brani nuovi per la compilation Torino è la mia città, ma alla vigilia dell’entrata in studio, Paolo “Stocca” abbandona il gruppo, che si scioglie.
Durante l’estate 2011 dopo un concerto dei BAD BRAINS ed una foto scattata insieme a HR, torna la voglia di suonare con Danilo e reclutato Giuseppe “Azza”, nuovo grande batterista, registrano 8 brani del vecchio repertorio, 3 covers ed un brano nuovo di zecca.

Ruthless sperm. What’s in a name? A whole hell of a lot, actually. Sperm can ruin everything. Persistent little shits that fight their way to the prize. If just one soldier gets ahold of its egg of choice, things will break apart, bubble and mutate. A microscopic violence that leads to thirty plus pounds of sludge and flesh. Still, beauty tends to be the outcome after all this splashy mess and most parties find a happy, rewarding ending. Most parties. To the unfortunate others, the outcome can be more terrifying than anything dreamed up in a Polanski flick.
Italy’s His Electro Blue Voice follows a similar path to creation. Once the choice is made, it’s guaranteed the trip will be violent and unrelenting. Only the band doesn’t tell you up front which crooked path is gonna lead you to the finish line (at first, they may not even know). But whether it’s slathered in a thick glaze of neo-gothic guitar, an unexpected electronic pulse or leveled under a death trip full of panic inducing terror shrieks, His Electro Blue Voice have become masters at building soundscapes that leave brave listeners spent, soiled and with nothing positive on their mind.
On Ruthless sperm – His Electro Blue Voice’s debut full-length, after a string of collectible singles/EPs and an appearance on the Sub Pop 1000 compilation – they set their trajectories on a Kraut-driven rhythm; a haunting, cinematic wash or a mechanically-sound industrial thump. Thirty-plus minutes of shock-horror blasts, blaring cyber-synth attacks and that gloriously-repetitive STOOGEoid-meets-KILLING JOKE throb. The end result is a platter that’s as direct as it is deadly. Yet for all the bombast and bummer, His Electro Blue Voice still bring forth euphoric hooks and shards of shoegaze, if only to leave them strewn about within the mechanical wreckage. You can almost hear the sounds of the early 4AD roster in the grooves, left teetering between warped indie sensibility and creepy-crawl madness. Crazy sounding, but damned if it doesn’t stick in your head.

Xtravagance Core - Cabaret Terror Balera #2008 + Pirati d'acqua calda #2012

Il progetto Xtravagance Core nasce nel 2004 dalla disgregazione del gruppo CUT LINERS (R.I.P.), Ni/gölas (voce) e Tosgh (chitarra) decidono di portare avanti le ricerche di stravaganza sonora comincate ad indagare nella ska/metal band. Il nuovo sound sarà guidato dalla voglia di fondere il suono punk/grind all'attitudine del cabaret e degli spettacoli da vilaggio turistico, in un'atmosfera surreale e senza senso. Nel 2006 si aggiunge al progetto Dudankamion (batteria), fissando definitivamente la sessione ritmica alla sonorità della band, che diviene così un trio nella sua ossatura centrale; tuttavia la formazione del gruppo non è fissa ed è in costante collaborazione con vari ed eventuali personaggi come predikatori "marcificati", ballerine mutanti, frustatrici frustrate, ladri di cotolette, in una festa di latrati, coriandoli, feed back, e trombette da compleanno.
Dopo alcuni anni di sperimentazione canina, nei quali le fila Xtravagance hanno vantato la partecipazione di personaggi laidi del calibro di Miguel al Marcificatore e Gigi al basso, nonchè dopo vari concerti che li hanno visti impegnati nel circondario dell'emilia romagna ma anche in alcune zone del nord italia, gli Xtravagance ritornano in pista con un nuovo membro fisso nella band, Simobe il Pistillo, che già aveva collaborato per moltissimi concerti; bimoSe suona la tromba e le tastiere, ma è anche un ottimo imbecille, degno quindi di essere il quarto cavaliere dell'Xtravaganza!
Dopo la pubblicazione del loro primo album chiamato Cabaret Terror Balera, nonchè dell'edizione speciale Il Seg(c)reto dell'Intestino Crasso, nel 2012 gli Xtravagance Core pubblicano su vari market digitali un disco live di 15 brani, intitolato I Pirati d'Acqua Calda, registrato durante il concerto piratesco del Freak Festival al Beky Bay di Bellaria I. O - Il vuoto perfetto #2012

L’artwork ricavato da una vecchia foto corrosa dal tempo in cui si apre una sorta di voragine nera, testi volti a scavare nel proprio io e nelle proprie angosce, una struttura circolare che vede inizio e fine fronteggiarsi come un serpente Uroboro: sono tutti elementi che concorrono a dar forma a Il vuoto perfetto e indicano la volontà di andare oltre la semplice collezione di canzoni, così da mettere in scena un percorso interiore in certo modo iniziatico, che dalla distruzione di sé porti alla possibilità di una nuova partenza. La seconda prova degli O, già autori di uno split con gli HUNGRY LIKE RAKOVITZ, si impone per la complessità con cui i vari ingredienti si incastonano e danno vita a una mazzata feroce di postcore virato grind, personale e ben assemblato, tanto in your face quanto capace di improvvise aperture che rendono il percorso affascinante e mai monotono. Ovviamente, si resta saldi nell’ambito dell’estremismo sonoro più iconoclasta e coraggioso, lontano da qualsiasi tentazione listener-friendly o da concessioni alla melodia, ma ciò che prevale non è tanto il nichilismo fine a se stesso, quanto un concept con un suo senso compiuto e una sua precisa ragione d’essere, seppure ricca di negatività e quasi priva di prese da cui far filtrare luce. Le stesse vocals, in continua lotta con il clangore degli strumenti, oltre che sempre sul punto di spezzarsi in un grido di sofferenza e follia, concorrono a definire una sottile linea tra possibilità di comunicare e incapacità di confrontarsi con gli altri, tra la scelta della lingua madre come da tradizione hardcore e la lucida consapevolezza di non essere compresi che da poche anime affini. Per questo, Il vuoto perfetto non si presenta come un lavoro disposto a concedersi senza opporre resistenza, senza lottare per restare chiuso in se stesso, per cui deve essere conquistato ascolto dopo ascolto per svelarsi in tutta la sua forza espressiva e la sua complessità. Per gli altri resterà un solido disco dall’animo post in grado di unire estremismi di varia natura all’interno di una formula tanto incisiva quanto ben congegnata, il che è già un bel prendere.

Years, months, days of sweat and labor, sighs held and stifled breaths, between course changes and incisive pace: all of this will finally see light on February 21, 2014, conveyed in a single opus.
32 minutes and 32 seconds, 15 tracks based on the late 90's post-hardcore, soiled by dark crust riffs and renewed by an emotionally intensive mood, relentlessly lacerated by a native-language screaming which takes its roots from the Italian hardcore of the 80's.

Intothebaobab - Verdi acidi pensieri #2013

Secondo disco in formato vinilico 12″ degli IntoTheBaobab, oggi uno dei gruppi più stacanovisti nella diffusione della controcultura punk a Bologna, città, provincia & oltre...ormai uno strano satellite in perenne movimento nella galassia libertaria italiana. I solchi verdi e neri di questo disco sono pregni di urgenza comunicativa: una visione della realtà lucida come le maniglie del Titanic & disperatamente critica come il suicidio di un Kamikaze, ma allo stesso tempo caratterizzata da una proposta positiva, come sempre filtrata dalla sbilenca e oscura ironia che distingue i Baobab dalla trita e ritrita formula che vuole il punk solo come "sputare rabbia alla cieca". La musica va a bracetto con le visioni che offrono questi 11 pezzi, con sonorità e arrangiamenti, che per quanto semplici, sono concepiti come perenne tentativo di scardinare i fluidi e nebulosi confini del "genere punk", storpiarli per allargarli. Una secchiata di acido verde sulla carcassa della nemica "normalità".

NASA Space Universe - Brainrailers (7") #2010

If anything gets me back into hardcore it’ll be Nasa Space Universe. This is easily the best hardcore record I’ve listened to fresh this year. For one reason or another I’m getting the same vibes I did first time listening to the MINUTEMEN. This is more ostentatiously hardcore, and sticking to the stock reviewer band comparisons would maybe make more sense, but there’s something refreshing about this that can’t be summed up by selling it as another plain 80s hardcore revivalist effort. Or maybe it’s just successful, managing to capture more than just an aesthetic. Either way, it’s a refreshing hardcore 7". It’s not a full length that run the risks of getting old, and it’s not a 45 with not enough music to justify the pressing. Plus every song is a beast. Essentially a perfect hardcore seven.

Plof - Mardi gras (ep) #2013

I Plof da Fasano vanno fortunatamente oltre l’onomatopeia. Suonano un weird punk alla PRIMUS, senza vergogna e senza limiti, raggiungendo col profilo basso una cifra di orginalità evidente ed evitando l’onanismo estetico di tutti i cabarettisti del rock'n'roll alternativo. Le quattro tracce di questo esordio sono una meglio dell’altra e non conoscono punti deboli. Su tutte spicca la terza, Juan soup, dove la voce falsata da pupazzetto è doppiata da un riff potente intermittente e da una ritmica semplice e trascinante, quasi noise. Il country impazzito di Sex appeal cita il western americano, quello italiano, si trasforma in un urlo carnevalesco di gioia, disastro e voluttà.
I Plof hanno fretta. Risolvono tutto in pochi minuti. Ma non ci sono recriminazioni. L’esordio dedicato al martedì grasso è una mala visione dell’America dal tacco dell’Italia. Una deformazione sincera, prospettica e sentimentale, piena di energia e positiva irruenza. Complimenti alla Lepers Productions che li ha saputi scovare nello zoo urbano dell’underground e mettere nella propria riserva di artisti indipendenti da salvaguardare. Komplott - Sei vivo, sei morto a nessuno importa (12") #2013

I met a few of the guys from Komplott when they toured America with their other band, HOLY. Once I heard Komplott I was blown away by the relentless d-beat buzzing chainsaw guitars, furious drums, driving bass and harshly shouted vocals with the reverb at 11. As an Italian man, myself, I was extremely excited to hear something of this quality coming out from my homeland. This release is simply brutal.

Theo Teardo & Blixa Bargeld - Still smiling #2013

Chi ha letto sul Mucchio la nostra intervista di un paio di mesi fa conosce già i retroscena del rapporto di amicizia, più ancora che di sodalizio artistico, che lega Teho Teardo e Blixa Bargeld dai tempi dello spettacolo Ingiuria, nel 2009, proseguito nel 2010 nella colonna sonora di Una vita tranquilla di Claudio Cupellini.

Due anni di idee e musiche, rimbalzate fra lo studio di Teardo, a Roma, e quello di Bargeld, o meglio, dei suoi EINSTÜRZENDE NEUBAUTEN, con l’appoggio sostanziale del violoncello di Martina Bertoni e del BALANESCU QUARTET; due pezzi già noti, la cover di Alone with the moon dei TIGER LILIES e la revisione proprio di A quiet life; dieci altri brani in cui i caratteri più estremi del duo si stemperano verso orizzonti dalle grandi aperture liriche (mai puramente melodiche, attenzione; semmai, potentemente suggestive), dove il lavoro di cesello di Teho si sposa con una voce antica e quasi implacabile come quella di Blixa. Una voce che affronta la nostra lingua, nonostante le scuse di rito (Mi scusi), con un’eleganza sconosciuta a parecchi dei nostri cantanti, si destreggia con l’inglese in bilico fra dramma e grottesco (Still smiling), sfodera, anche nella sua lingua, insospettabili doti da coroner. All’industrial che fu, per tutti e due, un perno importante su cui far ruotare le proprie suggestioni, si sostituisce una modulazione notturna, suggestiva, verrebbe da azzardare incantata. È lo stupore di fronte all’eterna suggestione delle note e dei timbri che reggono tutto il percorso di un cd impossibile da infilare in qualsiasi insieme chiuso. Se volete, chiamatela elettronica ben temperata, oppure acustica emotiva dei relé (ma mica solo di quelli), tanto per divertirvi. Ancora una volta, meglio ascoltare, che (de)scrivere.
